Slots

The tray must carry a card in both slots even when you only want one printed — feed a blank in the unused slot.

No bleed: ink stops at the card edge, and any misfeed shows as a white sliver.

Loading order matters
  1. Press Print to tray first — send the job before touching the tray.
  2. The printer asks to initialise: pull the paper output tray OUT and press OK. (closed here = code 1857 / 1851 / 1259)
  3. It then asks for the tray: push the output tray back IN, flush with the operation panel. (left out here = code 1850 / 1855)
  4. Seat both cards, slide the multi-purpose tray in until the arrows line up, then press OK on the printer.

The output tray is wanted in opposite positions at steps 2 and 3 — out to initialise, in to accept the tray. Follow the printer's screen in order rather than chasing one code, or you will flip between 1857 and 1850. Canon also warns that mounting the tray before it asks can damage the printer, and the tray auto-ejects if it sits too long after the prompt (the job then errors — just re-send).

Output

A dry run pushes the job through the real print filters and reads back the raster size, so you can confirm the geometry before any card is at risk.

Data

Paste CSV (first row = headers) or load a file. Use {{Header}} in any text, QR or barcode element and it fills per card.

Offset

Every tray sits slightly differently. This shifts all printing on the page; it is stored per machine, not per design.

Calibration print
  1. Load two blank PVC cards into the tray and insert it as you would for a normal print.
  2. Print the target below. It carries two numbered millimetre ladders — one measuring from the left edge, one from the top.
  3. On the printed card, find the lowest tick number still visible on each ladder. Anything lower printed past the card edge and landed on the tray, so it simply isn't there.
  4. Enter those two numbers below. If tick 0 is visible but sits inside the edge, the print has gone the other way — measure that gap against the same 1 mm ticks and enter it as a negative number.
  5. Save the offset, then re-print to confirm the corner L now hugs the card corner.

This is what lands on each card. The corner cross should sit exactly on the card's top-left corner.

The address is what a phone opens. The identity is plain text stored on the chip itself, so the card still says what it is if that address ever stops answering.
